DETROIT, MI – Following the United Nations Security Council passing a resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, U.S. Senate candidate Nasser Beydoun issued the following statement:
“Today’s vote did two things; firstly, it rightfully showed that no one can run from international humanitarian law and secondly, it once again unveiled the lack of true leadership from the United States on a global stage.
While there is more to be done to hold the Israeli government fully accountable, this resolution is a sign of hope for the protection of innocent lives and a step towards a future where genocide is not tolerated. The need for immediate, unimpeded access for humanitarian aid is vital to the region and those efforts called for in this resolution must be protected.
I remain disappointed in the United States’ unfortunate decision to abstain from today’s vote – and furthermore their consistent efforts to obstruct this resolution during earlier sessions. It is continued proof that our leadership in Washington needs to put people first and it starts with getting true human rights advocates in office.
The divisiveness needs to stop – our leaders making decisions based on the support of special interests groups needs to stop. It’s time for our government to put people and humanity first.”
Nasser Beydoun is a longtime civil rights advocate and business leader with a proven record of building cultural and economic bridges that bring people together to create a stronger community.Beydoun is running to become Michigan’s next U.S. Senator through a grassroots campaign that has taken no money from special interest groups. As a CEO, son, husband and father of three, Beydoun is working to help make the true American dream for a safe and prosperous life a reality for everyone.
